Cairo shelter for abused women reflects changing times
New program will utilize comprehensive approach to rehabilitation by providing housing, counseling, training, job placement

On the surprisingly lush outskirts of Cairo, in the governorate of Quallubeya, final touches are being put on a tall apartment block that doesn’t distinguish itself outwardly from other surrounding public housing. The purpose of this building, however, sets it apart: It’s to be the first women’s shelter in Egypt and one of a handful across the Middle East.
