Ramadan has begun, to the tune of ubiquitous traffic jams caused by families doing last-minute shopping, and strings of lights lining mosque minarets across the city. Historically, it is the month when God is believed to have given the Koran to the Prophet Mohammad. It is meant to be a month of asking for forgiveness and taking comfort in community and good deeds.
