BEIRUT: The Italian Cultural Institute in Lebanon is kicking off the ninth week of its “Italian Language in the World” event series at the Italian Embassy in Baabda next Monday, focusing on the Italian language in Art, Science and Technology. The activity week will start at 6 p.m. on Monday October 19 with the inauguration of the exhibition, “From Ravenna to Beirut: mosaics works by the Antonine Art Institute students.” The exhibition highlights the close ties between Beirut and Italy in producing some of the world’s best loved mosaics.

Also open to the public is an exhibition entitled “From Borromini to Botta: History, Cultural Heritage and New Technologies,” which will open Tuesday at the Lebanese American University in collaboration with the Embassy of the Swiss Confederation.

The exhibition focuses on the works of Mario Botta, one of the most famous contemporary Swiss architects and Francesco Borromini, one of the most famous architects of the Italian baroque style. The inauguration will be preceded by a lecture by Professor Georges Abou Jaoude.

Next Wednesday, the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik will screen the film, “Le notti di Cabiria,” from the well-known director Federico Fellini, as part of a retrospective on the last 50 years of Italian cinema.

On October 22, caretaker Education Minister Bahia Hariri and Italian Ambassador to Lebanon Gabriele Checchia will host an award ceremony at UNESCO Palace for schools that have participated in the competition, “Peace Enzymes.” The event is organized in collaboration with the Pedagogic Center for Research and Development at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.

The week will culminate with “Readers Day” on Friday 23 October, with students of Italian language from the Language and Translation Center at the Lebanese University performing “Galileo between Art, Science and Technology.” The play will be followed by some readings of Galileo. –The Daily Star
