BEIRUT: The Internal Security Forces (ISF) detained a suspected car hijacker in a high-drama sting in the southern suburbs of Beirut on Friday. Hussein Mahmoud Arbid informed the ISF on Thursday that his parked car had been stolen in Mreijeh and that he had received a call from the perpetrators demanding a ransom of $7,000. The ISF and Arbid then agreed on a plan to lure the thief in order to arrest him. When Arbid met with the thief the following day in Burj al-Barajneh, supposedly to deliver the ransom, ISF who had staked out the area swooped in to arrest the suspect. The vehicle was returned to its owner and investigations revealed that the suspect had a number of previous warrants issued against him for theft and drug trafficking. – The Daily Star
