Evidence is growing that American tourists and residents in Lebanon can no longer purchase entry visas at the Syrian border, and now must apply for permission at the Syrian Embassy in Washington D.C. Until recently foreigners could easily travel between Lebanon and Syria. American citizens were charged a relatively low visa fee of only $16. No official statement from the Syrian government has accompanied the apparent shift in policy.
