At least two thousand people converged on the corner where Hawi was assassinated, gathering for a candle lit vigil held at sunset. As mourners gathered they threw roses on the spot where the blast occurred and others lit candles and placed them near Hawi's shattered car which was still where it had come to rest some 200 meters away.
