As the world celebrates on Tuesday International Literacy Day 2009, no city is more qualified to fly the flag of reading than Beirut: this year's World Book Capital. Lebanon's capital was bestowed the honor by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) last April due to its "efforts for cultural diversity, dialogue," a UNESCO statement said.
