Since it premiered in January at the Sundance Film Festival, Cherien Dabis' feature film debut "Amreeka" has been provoking appreciative nods from critics and film festival juries alike. The US-Canada-Kuwait co-production took the FIPRESCI (International Film Critics guild) prize at Cannes, where it screened during the Directors' Fortnight.
