A new independent study which estimates that more than half-a-million Iraqis have died as a result of the war is already causing a controversy in the United States, where mid-term elections are looming on the horizon. US President George W. Bush quickly dismissed the new research, which contends that nearly 655,000 Iraqis have suffered war-related deaths.
