Music star Cheb Mami, arrested in Paris this week after two years on the run in Algeria, went on trial on Thursday charged with forcing his ex-girlfriend to undergo an attempted abortion. Known as the "Prince of Rai," Mami, whose real name is Mohammad Khalifati, faces 10 years in jail and a 150,000 euro ($210,000) fine if found guilty of the assault.
