Iraq's political transition took a small step forward with the appointment of a chairman for the committee tasked with drafting a permanent constitution in August. The political development came amid raging violence that claimed the lives of six Iraqi civilians and three U.S. soldiers, a day after a wave of attacks killed at least 60 people.
