The release of new pictures of abused Iraqi prisoners increased pressure on the US administration on Thursday ahead of a key appearance before lawmakers by Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld. Battling to quell international outrage over the treatment of prisoners and falling approval ratings at home, US President George W. Bush reportedly scolded Rumsfeld for failing to inform him of the photos.
