Syria announced Sunday that it would attend the US-backed Middle East summit in Annapolis, Maryland, lending credibility to American peacemaking efforts but possibly undercutting its own alliances with Iran and hard-line groups like Hizbullah and Hamas. Damascus said its last-minute decision came after Washington met its demand.
