Seven years after the attacks on the Pentagon and the World Trade Center, Afghanistan is again the front line of the US-led "war on terror" with extremist unrest intensifying and a new focus on Pakistan's tribal areas. Less than two months after the September 11, 2001, attacks, the US and its allies ousted the Taliban regime.
