The United Nations launched an appeal Monday for $7.1 billion in humanitarian aid for 2010 but said it was finalizing calls for about a billion more, which would push the request to a record high. The amount did not include the requirements for Iraq, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Nepal which were still under discussion, the United Nations Under Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs, John Holmes, told reporters.
