The rooms of the National Theater in central Baghdad are filled - unfortunately not with spectators - but with actors, playwrights and intellectuals desperate to keep alive the country's tradition of theater. Like so much of Baghdad, the building was gutted by looters in the aftermath of the 2003 U.S. invasion and the fall of Saddam Hussein.
