For the first time in 33 years Lebanon has a democratically elected Parliament that more or less reflects the wishes of the people in all their lush variety. It's a bit premature to describe the country as a democracy, though. The state does not have a monopoly on the use of force, nor is it sovereign over all the land inside its borders.
