On the occasion of the 56th anniversary of independence, the Indonesian Embassy held a reception last Thursday for the Indonesian community in Lebanon, at the embassy in Baabda. The Republic of Indonesia gained independence in 1945, after 350 years of Dutch rule. The Indonesian community in Lebanon totals 213 skilled workers and embassy officials. Indonesian Ambassador Syam Soemanagara gave a speech explaining the importance of his country’s freedom and the way in which it was gained.
