BEIRUT: Ayyam Gallery's latest exhibition, "A Collective Memory: 2007-2017," takes a retrospective look at the 60-year career of Asaad Arabi. Displaying 12 vibrant canvases from various series, the show includes works depicting vocalist Oum Kalthoum, abstract landscapes and some newly finished works from his "The Birds" series. The works on show at Ayyam mark a decade of collaboration with the gallery, which over the years has amassed many of his paintings. The retrospective also includes "Creatures from the Past," 2008, a work produced in collaboration with his daughter, as Arabi wished to explore the innocence of children. In the mist of work on a new series, Arabi intends to compile many smaller paintings and sketches of the same size, feeling the need to depart from his usual large-format canvases.
