BEIRUT: Lebanon's Central Bank Gov. Riad Salameh said Monday that Lebanon needs "an immediate solution in days" to prevent an economic collapse.

Salameh told Reuters the headline of an interview earlier in the day with CNN was inaccurate.

"Central Bank governor: Lebanon days away from collapse," was the title.

In an interview with CNN, Salameh was asked how long Lebanon had before an economic collapse took place. "It’s a matter of days, because the cost is heavy on the country ... more important we’re losing every day more and more confidence, and finance and economics is all about confidence," he said.

Salameh also told Reuters that the Central Bank did not ask banks in Lebanon to close, adding that they would reopen as soon as the situations calms down in Lebanon.
