Spring vibes at STATION’s Feelgood Market

BEIRUT: STATION, a hybrid cultural space with dynamic programming in art, design, music and lifestyle projects, is welcoming spring with its Feelgood Market, a seasonal pop-up market featuring a curated selection of exhibitors, food stands, activities and entertainment.

The market runs from April 23 till April 26 and features smart crafts, sustainable design and chic upcycled products.

“We’ve curated an original program that’s stylish, socially conscious and playful, with delicious foods and fresh cocktails,” Swiss-Lebanese Nabil Canaan, founder and director of STATION, told The Daily Star.

“Set in STATION’s industrial space, visitors can browse stands of local labels and international brands, discover special products, chat with creators, try on favorite finds and walk away with a conversation-starter,” Canaan said.

The Market will host over 20 exhibitors of furniture, lighting, fashion, publishing, accessories and vintage items.

“For exhibitors, it’s a retail platform to raise brand awareness, make new contacts and launch special collections and services.”

In this Feelgood edition one can find smart crafts from Vea, fashionable accessories and handbags made from inner tire tubes; sustainable design from Waste, which produces handcrafted bags, accessories and furniture from reused advertising banners; chic upcycling from Brut L’Atelier, handmade furniture and decor from found objects; Jasmine & Delilah upcycled vintage and antique furniture; stylish menswear from Men Just Wanna Have Fun, as well as a host of tasteful items by some of Beirut’s best retailers.

Also present at the Feelgood Market is a wellness space courtesy of Zenotel wellness retreat hotel and spa, located in the serene mountains of Bhersaf. “At the Market, they are presenting an on-site massage service and offering special rates to their mountain haven of tranquility.”

Little ones also get a cool share of the fun. The Kid’s Corner will offer “a choice of hands-on creative crafts and educational activities including origami and organic painting.”

Up on the rooftop – which opens this weekend – visitors can grab a bite with friends and family in a cosy cosmopolitan and festive atmosphere.

“A selection of dishes to tickle the taste buds and soothe the soul will be offered from spicy Southeast Asian by Jai, to delicious soups and healthy food like gluten-free snacks and dips, wheat-free biscuits, superpuddings and Lucy’s Energy Balls along with detox drinks by JuiceUp.”

The rooftop bar will have craft beer on draft, fresh cocktails and pitchers of sangria to enjoy while lounging to Feelgood grooves.

Kitchen Lab, the Lebanese food and cooking concept, will be hosting cooking demos by Beirut chefs. “Chefs will share some great cooking tips to make delicious summer rolls, homemade ricotta or special soups.”

Yoga sessions will also kick off at STATION this weekend, Saturday and Sunday mornings, by Union Square Yoga. “Feeling good in our lives is the recognition that we are not ego-encapsulated beings doomed to suffer, but a natural habitat for life to run its course, as we experience it’s wonderment,” Danielle Abi Saab, founder of Union Square Yoga, told The Daily Star.

“There will be two yoga sessions each day – Slow Flow and Pop & Rock Vinyasa by professional yogis,” Canaan said. “It’s about springtime, feeling good and doing good – to your body, your mind, nature and society at large.”

Scrumptious brunches on STATION’s rooftop will start this Sunday running from 1 to 4 p.m. “There will be various food stands offering a variety of dishes. It is not a buffet and it’s not your typical English breakfast,” Canaan added.

Enjoy a fresh Bloody Mary while checking out the live jazz trio. The rooftop will also host Open Decks with local DJs playing downtempo chill music.

The first edition of the Market was launched in June 2014 during Beirut Design Week, another market was held in December for Christmas and this Feelgood Market is STATION’s third.

Since opening in 2013, STATION has regularly organized exhibitions of video, photography and installation art by local and international artists. Situated in a renovated wood factory near to two of Lebanon’s leading art institutions, Beirut Art Center and Ashkal Alwan, the multipurpose venue consists of 1,400 square meters spread over three ground floors and a rooftop.

The original space, diverse crowd and vital energy have positioned STATION among the premier cultural venues in Lebanon.

“By its experimental character and contextualized programming, STATION facilitates the exchange between artists, audience and cultural stakeholders,” Canaan noted.

The STATION Feelgood Market runs from Thursday April 23 to Sunday April 26. Thursday/Friday from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday/Sunday from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. The next STATION Market will take place in June, during Beirut Design Week.
