Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil claimed attempts were in place to compromise Christian rights in Lebanon and replace Lebanese people with Palestinian and Syrian refugees, during a tour of Lebanese diaspora communities in the U.S. "What is happening in Lebanon is an attempt to replace the people with Syrians and Palestinians," Bassil said to members of the Lebanese community in Connecticut.Bassil traveled to New York Thursday as part of the delegation accompanying Prime Minister Tammam Salam to participate in the 70th U.N. General Assembly meeting. Since his arrival to the United States Bassil has also toured several states and met with Lebanese communities there.According to Bassil 2 million refugees currently reside in Lebanon, including 1.5 million Syrian refugees and 500,000 Palestinians.
