The under-18s men's national basketball team returned over the weekend from a surprise fourth-place finish at the 2016 FIBA Asia Championship in Iran.The team entered the tournament ranked 54 in Asia – the lowest-ranked position – and defied expectations to finish in the final five.In the final game of the Group B set, the Iranian home side handed Lebanon their first loss. But with the solid group stage performance, the team advanced to the quarterfinals where they thumped India by 31 points, 98-67 . Despite high hopes of claiming the third place, and with it a ticket to the 2017 FIBA Under-19 World Championship, their dreams were dashed again in the 86-63 loss.Moujaes described how international scouts were impressed by the Cedars' performance.However, Moujaes believes that the side needs more assistance if they are to excel in future.Guard Ali Mansour agreed that a lack of experience hurt the team. Overall, both the players and the coach called on the government to do more to help the sport.
