Kataeb Party chief Sami Gemayel Friday said his party would not back any candidate with a "March 8 platform" for the presidency, ending hope that Samir Geagea's endorsement of rival Michel Aoun earlier this week would pave the way for a Christian consensus. The shock endorsement brought hope to some that Lebanon's other Christian parties would follow suit and agree on Aoun for presidency to end the 20-month-long vacuum at the country's top post. However, Marada Movement Sleiman Frangieh who, like Aoun, belongs to the March 8 coalition, has vowed to stay in the presidential race despite Aoun receiving support from Geagea.
