Youth involvement in politics took center stage at the launch of the sixth edition of the Arab Human Development Report at the American University of Beirut Tuesday. The report, entitled "Youth and the Prospects for Human Development in a Changing Reality," published by United Nations Development Program, focuses on the challenges and opportunities facing youth in the Arab region, especially after the wave of popular uprisings since 2011 .Overseen by AUB Associate Professor of Economics Jad Chaaban, the report was produced by a team of experts and researchers in conjunction with over 100 young people from around the Arab world. Given the unique challenges faced by youth in the Arab world – notably a high unemployment rate as well as the prospect of shrinking public sectors, the report emphasized the importance of what it termed a "new development model".Fadlo Khuri, the president of AUB, also emphasized the importance of this kind of collaboration across different sectors of society.
