BEIRUT: Prime Minister Saad Hariri received a message of congratulations from United States President Donald Trump Thursday on the occasion of Lebanon’s Independence Day.

A statement from Hariri’s press office Thursday reported that Trump "expressed appreciation for the commendable relations between the two peoples in cultural, economic and political fields."

The U.S. president reportedly added that Lebanon was a strong partner to the United States in "combating terrorism and violent extremism,” and noted his country’s steadfast support for Lebanon.

Trump also said that the United States would continue to support Lebanon’s efforts to protect its stability, independence and sovereignty.

Trump's message came the day after Lebanon celebrated the 74th anniversary of its independence.
