A recent string in violent crimes in Baalbeck-Hermel has brought the area's lax security situation to the fore, with President Michel Aoun promising Thursday to hold intensive meetings on the situation and put an end to the "chaos".Aoun's comments were conveyed by caretaker Interior Minister Nouhad Machnouk after the two met in Baabda, accompanied by Baalbeck-Hermel Gov. Bashir Khodr. Machnouk and Khodr informed Aoun on the various security incidents that have transpired recently in the Bekaa region, and particularly in Baalbeck-Hermel, according to a statement from the presidency. The security situation in and around Baalbeck prompted Aoun last month to call the Higher Defense Council to a meeting to take action.
