2 killed, over 20 wounded in Nabatieh factory explosion

NABATIEH, Lebanon: Two people died and more than 20 were wounded Thursday when a hot water tank exploded at a sweets factory in the southern district of Nabatieh.

The explosion, which occurred at the Habib Waked Maatouk Sweets factory in the town of Sayer, caused a fire that spread throughout the factory and also damaged nearby shops and vehicles. The flames were subsequently put out.

Civil Defense and Red Cross vehicles took the wounded to local hospitals for treatment.

The two deceased reportedly died in the fire that followed the explosion.
