BEIRUT: President Michel Aoun called Monday for the prosecution of those who spread “bad publicity” about the national currency, after a meeting with a delegation of the Beirut Bar Association.

“We all want reform, despite the obstacles [ahead],” Aoun was quoted as saying in a presidential statement to the newly elected president of the Beirut Bar Association Melhem Khalaf.

Aoun said that the current uprising has removed a lot of “red lines” and announced that in the upcoming stages “you will see in the next stage what will satisfy ... all Lebanese.”

Khalaf stressed the Beirut Bar Association’s commitment to making sure that democracy is upheld in Lebanese law.

“The first concern is to inject democracy into [constitutional] institutions,” Khalaf said.
