BEIRUT: Parliament’s Finance and Budget Committee Friday endorsed the 2020 budgets of the Finance, Culture, Information, Youth and Sport, and Environment ministries.

The committee's chair, MP Ibrahim Kanaan, said after a session that the committee had canceled "some items relating to associations, contributions and travel” for these ministries, and had put other items on hold to be discussed in the committee's final session next Wednesday.

Kanaan also said Thursday that two sessions that had been scheduled to take place on Monday Dec. 9 have been postponed by a day, owing to parliamentary consultations to designate a new prime minister.

The ministries that will now have their budgets discussed Tuesday are Education, Economy and Trade, Agriculture, Industry, Labor, Social Affairs and the Ministry for the Displaced.

The committee’s final session has also been pushed back a day and will now happen on Wednesday Dec. 11.

The budgets of the Justice Ministry and Constitutional Council were approved by the committee in its Thursday session.
