BEIRUT: The Lebanese and French armies held a joint military exercise in Jounieh’s naval base Wednesday, according to a statement from the Lebanese Army.

Helicopter carrier Dixmude and other French army boats were used in the exercise, named Cedre Bleu 2019.

The Army described the operation as “highly important,” saying it enhanced maritime and air cooperation between the two countries.

On Tuesday, the Army performed landings on the French helicopter carrier as well as a number of other exercises.

In an event on board the carrier last week, French Ambassador to Lebanon Bruno Foucher said the joint exercises reflected bilateral cooperation in defense between the French and the Lebanese armies.

“France has spent over the past five years over half a billion euros to support the Lebanese Armed Forces,” Foucher said, according to the state-run National News Agency.
