BEIRUT: Caretaker Prime Minister Saad Hariri met with MP Gebran Bassil Monday afternoon, as nationwide protests reached their 19th day.

"The meeting appears to have been positive considering the fact that it lasted close to four hours and they had lunch together," a political source told The Daily Star.

A source close to Bassil, who is also leader of the Free Patriotic Movement and caretaker foreign minister, confirmed the meeting took place at Hariri's Downtown Beirut residence.

The meetings come as politicians scramble to agree on a new prime minister to form a cabinet. Hariri resigned last week. Soon after, President Michel Aoun asked him to continue in a caretaking capacity.
