BEIRUT: Caretaker Prime Minister Saad Hariri held his second meeting of the week with MP Gebran Bassil Wednesday, a source close to Bassil said.

No details were immediately available.

Hariri welcomed Bassil to his Downtown Beirut residence on Monday night, where the latter presented a number of proposals for the makeup of the next government to Hariri.

Hariri, who resigned on Oct. 29, is the frontrunner to be designated as prime minister again. However, Bassil's proposals fall short of meeting the demands of the hundreds of thousands of protesters who have been in the streets since Oct. 17. Protesters were demanding the resignation of Hariri's government. Bassil, the leader of the Free Patriotic Movement, has also been a main target of protesters who are refusing his return as a minister.

President Michel Aoun has yet to call for binding parliamentary consultations where MPs put forth their nominee for prime minister.
