BEIRUT: U.N. special envoy for Syria Lakhdar Brahimi urgently took off to St. Petersburg, Russia, to press for Geneva 2 conference on the sidelines of G20 summit, RIA Novosti quoted Martin Nesirky, the spokesman for U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, as saying Thursday.

“While the world has been focused on the possible use of chemical weapons in Syria, we must firmly move towards calling for the international conference on Syria scheduled to take place in Geneva. A political solution is the only way to stop the bloodshed in the country,” Nesirky said.
