American spy's release would be high-stakes gamble

Jonathan Pollard is pictured in this May 1991 file photo, six years after his 1985 arrest. The release of Pollard, an Israeli spy jailed in the United States would be part of a proposed package to keep U.S.-brokered peace talks with the Palestinians alive, an Israeli source close to the negotiations said April 1, 2014. A halt to Israeli state-backed construction in the occupied West Bank and the release of hundreds of Palestinians held by Israel would also be part of that package. REUTERS/Files
