The United Nations' cultural agency UNESCO Thursday adopted a resolution affirming that Jerusalem's Al-Aqsa compound is sacred only to Muslims, Israeli media reported.According to Israeli daily Haaretz, which has obtained a draft of the resolution, an entire section is dedicated to the site, referring to it only as the Al-Aqsa Mosque or its Arabic name, Haram al-Sharif.The report acknowledges that Jerusalem is holy to Islam, Christianity and Judaism, but outlines that the Al-Aqsa compound site is sacred only to Muslims and does not address Jewish claims on the site, Haaretz said. The UNESCO resolution sought to maintain the status quo, which holds that the Al-Aqsa compound is holy to Muslims and Jews may not pray there.
