As Lebanon marks Independence Day, it's worth remembering that over the centuries this tiny sliver of land has endured and later shed the shackles of many invasions and occupations, as affirmed by the ruins at Nahr al-Kalb.More importantly, majestic Lebanon has always been the jewel in the crown of those conquests irrespective of the breadth of those foreign occupations in this region.Today we mark the Independence Day with messages of goodwill pouring in from superpowers, friendly states and regional partners, all of which wish Lebanon continued independence and sovereignty, and affirmation of the desire to maintain strong ties with this country, including from Saudi King Salman, Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman and U.S. President Donald Trump. This is what Lebanon deserves, and why it needs to be left alone to chart their own course.
